I think almost all cell goes through mitosis. It is part of their life cycle where they reproduce themselves. There are six stages of mitosis: Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase, and Cytokinasis. Usually there are only four or five phases shown, but this is the whole process. Mitosis occurs to both plant and animal cell or eukaryotic cells. However it occurs to bacteria or procaryotic cells as binary fission. I am only going to talk about mitosis of plant and animal cells.
Interphase, the first step of the cell cycle is where the cell spends most of its time developing. During this time it eats and grows just like a baby. However during the end of this time the cell makes copies of their DNA so they can reproduce. In prophase the cell's chromosomes turns into. Then in metaphase chromatids pair up in one pair each. During anaphase the chromatids move to opposite sides of the cell. By this time on is when then cell starts to separate. Telophase is the time the chromatids push off to the side of the cell and it looks like two small circles connected. Finally, cytokinasis is when the cells break apart from each other.
In plant cells a cell plate cell forms between the two cells to break them apart. Still in an animal cell the two cells doesn't need a cell plate to separate them; they break apart like squeezing jello or jelly. Mitosis could also cause cancer if anything goes wrong during the process. From this cancer cells reproduce rapidly. However without mitosis we wouldn't grow and may even not have enough cells. This process in your body starts without you noticing it. Well, maybe you might notice if a long time pass by.
